I'm Niesa Hussett, Founder and CEO of Human Resources and Career Wellness, and I want to welcome you to something different-something deeply personal, fiercely professional, and powerfully overdue.
With over 20 years of experience as a Human Resources leader in government, healthcare, and corporate sectors, I've come to understand something that too often gets lost in policy handbooks and boardroom strategies: at the heart of every thriving company is a workforce that feels heard, understood and valued. Without that, trust erodes-and when trust erodes, so does everything else.
When I first entered the field of Human Resources, it wasn't for a title or a seat at the executive table. I was driven by a desire to mentor, to support, and to help people grow into the best versions of themselves. From the beginning, my guiding principle has been simple: build future leaders, create new mentors, and never stop advocating for people.
Throughout my career-from directing HR for organizations with thousands of employees to serving as Chief Human Resources Officer for respected agencies-I've developed and led initiatives focused on diversity, equity, talent development, and employee engagement. I've introduced wellness programs, launched new-hire experiences, improved retention strategies, and sat in on citywide labor negotiations. I've helped CEOs reimagine culture and coached emerging leaders on navigating difficult environments.
But over the years, a truth began to weigh on me: the role of HR was changing, and not always for the better. What once felt like a safe space for employees was becoming something else- something more aligned with risk management than human development. I started hearing employees say things like, "HR doesn't care," or "HR only protects the company." And increasingly, I found myself in rooms where my voice-the voice I once used to support staff- was expected to prioritize legal protections over human outcomes.
Yes, Human Resources must protect the company. That's non-negotiable. But why can't we do both? Why can't we protect the business while also fiercely protecting the people who power it?
That question is what led me to a turning point. In 2023, I launched Human Resources and Career Wellness-a firm designed to challenge the status quo and bring humanity back to HR. This firm was created to bridge the gap- to restore balance, trust, and integrity to the way we approach employee relations and company culture. We partner with organizations that want to do more than just meet compliance checklists-they want to build environments where their team feel empowered and supported. And for employees who feel mistreated, overlooked, or silenced, we serve as a voice, and advocate, and an ally-helping them to be heard in spaces where they've often been ignored.
